About Amalfi White
Amalfi White is a lively Italian inspired restaurant and bar, serving wood fired pizza and brasserie casual dining downstairs and elegant a la carte menu in the Ballroom with a private White Bar. We have an extensive wine list served by the glass or bottle, and a Prosecco and cocktail Bar. We also hire the Ballroom for private events or weddings with 60-100 guests (with lift access and disabled facilities). We have a substantial garden, patio lounges and children’s play area.
The day time and evening menu is informal and family friendly with a selection of classic Italian pasta dishes all with gluten and dairy free options, as well as delectable starters, salads and more substantial meals.
A classic Italian Valoriani Wood fired Pizza Oven is fired through out the day delivering beautiful pizzas (again all gluten free and diary free if you wish).
There are a selection of salads, pastas and fish dishes and an amazing fillet steak option. If you have a special occasion that you would like to accommodate please call us as we can create special events and menus
We love Italian family weddings… and we love eating with our children so please bring your family. We have a yummy childrens menu without the complexity, can cook additions or alterations to suit little-ones diets, have a marvellous play area in the garden and baby facilities… we even have mini cutlery. We also serve pizzas from 5pm (and all day on a Saturday)… ideal for a post school-run meal with the family.
The restaurant is open from 11am until midnight Tuesday til Sunday (closing earlier at 9pm on Sundays). We are closed on Mondays. We serve a variety of menus throughout the day… typically brasserie style downstairs all week and fine dining on Friday and Saturday evenings in the Ballroom. Please email us or call 01332694890
The idea of starting Amalfi White began on our travels abroad. We love Italian food and al fresco dining and the Amalfi Coast is a special place of ours – famous for fresh tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, olives and lemons (the finest in Italy – perfect for Limoncello)… Italian wine and Prosecco are also a favourite (and as Lizzy is from New Zealand, wine from there too) as is the laughter of big family life. We considered creating a home where guests could relax, eat and drink, have extended lunches with friends and celebrate big family weddings “Italian style”.
Then in 2011 the historic Melbourne Liberal Club and Public Hall became available. So we bought it and considered our options. We intended to start work straight away but we had tiny baby number 1…. then baby number 2 came, Will (known as Williamo as he was given an italian nickname by his sister) and life was just too busy. Initially we considered turning the building into a hotel and restaurant over 3 floors but as the refurbishment began, the true glory of the upstairs Ballroom was revealed. We found ourself staring at a stunning 20ft barrel vault ceiling that had been hidden by suspended ceilings and 100 years of dirt. We read the diaries and minutes of the men and women who built the Liberal Club and we understood what to do next – we couldn’t destroy it so the hotel idea had to go. Over the past year our vision has expanded – we are trying to put life into the whole building as we now consider private dining events and starting a cooking school to teach how to make fresh pasta, foccacia and pizza during the day… as it really is so simple and great fun.
The building is now complete and includes a 50 cover restaurant and Prosecco Bar on the ground floor; a 120 seater Ballroom for dining and big events; the White Bar for private dining or drinks and a beautiful garden with 2 patio areas and a children’s play area.
The identity was inspired from Amalfi Coast crest which has the symbols of their trading nautical history. The compass comes from the crest to guide the travellers and the 2 sets of wings are to get you safety there and home again.
We have made sure the building is exceptional aesthetically (along with the talented bunch from The One Off design agency)and have focused on making it operational and worked alongside our chefs to make sure we have an incredible menu and wine list..
One year later we have made some great friends along the way (we are also on to baby number 4!) so life is very busy but fun. We really love meeting new customers, appreciate all the custom over the past year and look forward to some exciting times ahead.
